Floods in Vietnam

Floods in central Vietnam have killed 107 people, with 11 still missing, and caused economic damage of USD 120 million, officials said Sunday.

Catastrophic floods, caused by the Tropical Depression, wreak havoc in the country's easternmost province of Phu Yen, where 72 people died.

As rescue efforts continued, river levels receded Sunday, according to Duong Van Huong, head of the provincial storm and flood committee.

However, the efforts were hindered by destroyed road access to hard-hit areas, the committee said. Mr. Huong added that schools remained closed, with some 200,000 students staying home for safety reasons.
