This has been an unfortunate development. I have always been pro-democratic. The government and legislature would not have been legitimate to me if they were not directly elected by the people. For such system does not exist in Hong Kong, I longed for democracy to come. Such breakthrough , not surprisingly, did not happen -- Hong Kong's political system is directed by a pro-institution election system supported by government-affiliated parties. However, having lived in Taipei for almost a year, I start to think that Hong Kong should also wait until it is ready for it. What makes a democracy work? People think that a clean government, non-existent corruption, rule of law, a vibrant media industry, and educated voters. But Taiwan has been showcasing some annoying developments. We see fightings in the parliament. Two presidential candidates have been tamed by corruption charges. Claims are rife that the media have been used in spear campaigns. Politicians are killed... What is lacking in Taiwan? Would it have been better off if democracy did not happen in 1996? What is the lesson for Hong Kong? I say this is an unfortunate development because fundamentally I believe democracy is a vital development for humankind but it seems that achieving this could be painful. Would the government be paralyzed if the opposition party in Hong Kong intentionally dysfunction it? How would the media play in Hong Kong's democracy? How long would it take for the opposition party to enable itself to run the government when right now they are barred from the institution? Propaganda put forward by pro-democratic politicians have become less logical than I would think before I see Taiwan's democracy. What should be done to make democracy possible in Hong Kong? How long would it take for China to become a democratic society? These are the questions that need to be answered by some great leaders in our country. Who will that be?

By the time we will have election by people, we would have waited long enough.
3 crucial advantages in HK:
1. ICAC
2. restricted democracy and freedom.
3. the new generation.
Dont underestimate the richness and power of freedom.
Thank you for your comment.
