old job
Ex-standard actually has more than one meaning. Ex is a prefix which means former and this is the major reason I chose the name. I am now a reporter for the Standard newspaper in Hong Kong but I have quit and am going to a start-up called mergermarket.com. It is for sure one of the few survivors from the dot.com burst and from what I heard they are expanding pretty fast. It is kind of an intelligence research firm which looks at the financial market and scoops out whatever valuable news that has never been reported about companies' merger and acquisition plans. A bit of a raise and a much brighter picture that comes along. The reason the current standard job is gloomy does not take a bright man to explain. On top of all subtle politics that goes on and on and the rancourous environment which results, this new job as a intelligence researcher does constitute a good development of my career or what I would call extension, where comes the second meaning of my blog's title. The third is what I would rather not mention or I would have made this page Xstandard. X from what it looks means no or anti- and Xstandard naturally means anti-the-lovely-newspaper which I have worked at for one and a half years. This place at Kowloon Bay indeed sucks being anti- is something I would not do because there are also nice people. Afterall, it is my first job.
